leaping into literacy

The Mississippi Achievement School District is off to a grand start with its mission to make every scholar a success story. On August 17, 2023, the elementary students of  Ida Green and McCoy Elementary School received a school visit from Tonja Murphy, Community Engagement Coordinator for the MS Book Festival, and  Alice Faye Duncan, author of Yellow Dog Blues. During the visit, Ms. Duncan engaged students in fun activities, including reciting affirmation poems, singing, reading, and coping strategies. After reading her book, Yellow Dog Blues and This Train is Bound for Glory, to students, Ms. Duncan provided students with a signed copy of Yellow Dog Blues and encouraged them to dream big and use their educational experience to leave a positive imprint upon the world. The Mississippi Achievement School District would like to thank the MS Book Festival organization and Author Alice Faye Duncan for providing the Mississippi Achievement School District students with this incredible learning experience.
